Ben and I went LA last weekend for a little vacation. I am going to get around to blogging about it, but first I need to share something very exciting......I flushed my keys down the toilet. Yes you read that right, keys down the toilet. On Saturday morning we met up with my parents at this restaurant called Juniors. When it was time to leave I decided to go to the bathroom first. As I am heading into the stall I looked down and see my car keys poking out of my pocket just a little. I thought to myself "I should put those somewhere else." But then I decided there was no point since I was leaving in a second anyway. Usually I use my foot to flush public toilets, but for some reason this time I leaned forward and flushed it with my hand. Right when this turbo toilet started it extreme suction, my keys flew out of my pocket right into the cyclone. I threw my hand into the public toilet bowl to retrieve my keys, but it was too late. The toilet was way to intense for my slow reaction time. Gone were my car key, clicker to turn off my car alarm, house key and my electronic fob that clocks me in at work. I apparently made some sort of gasp, shout or scream when this happened because my mom who was in the next stall starting saying "Ashley, what's wrong?" I couldn't even respond. I was in shock. I just stared into the toilet bowl. Was this really the end of my keys? Were they not going to come back up? Do I just leave the stall? I finally walked out since my mom kept asking what had happened. Once I started telling her the story we both couldn't stop laughing. We walked out of the bathroom to inform my dad and Ben of my tragedy. But then I couldn't decide if it really was okay to leave the bathroom. I kept walking back in and just standing there, but then realizing there was nothing I could do. Because Ben is smart he had brought along his set of my car keys to California, the only problem was they were in the locked car. We had to call AAA to come and break into my car to get the keys. Ben called Honda and it is only a mere $150 to get new car keys! Everybody called me toilet girl at work last Monday when I had to explain why I couldn't clock in at work.

On the phone with AAA

Still on the phone with AAA

Waiting for AAA to arrive

That is funny Ashley. I can picture the whole thing happening now. Good thing Ben brought keys. somewhere someday somebody might find those keys floating around somewhere in the ocean!!!
I'm so sorry. That really sucks. The thing that I find disturbing is the garbage bin in the stall...is that a Dollar Tree shopping bag lining the bin? #1 Nobody wants to see anyone else's bathroom garbage...gross! #2 Can't the restaurant afford some real trash bags or invest in the closed top silver trash recepticles that hang on the wall so no one has to see what's inside? That's my two cents worth.
PS I would have cried if that happened to me. But you, you're all smiles. Way to stay positive, Ash.
I loved this story when mom told it too... and Luisa and I took turns making the famous uncharacteristic helpless noise that mom said you made. it was fun! i am so glad you can get your keys made by honda again.
ha ha! that is a great story, and just made my week!
but sorry about your keys, that sucks!
That's so funny! It's like the picture of the toilet is the headstone on the grave of your keys. So sad!
I love that you thought to take a photo of the toilet! (What blogger's will do.)
So funny and sad at the same time. I would have loved to hear the noise that you made. Thanks for updating your blog!
That is probably one of the best stories that I have heard in a while. I love it!!!
YOu're a nerd, nice work! Just wanted to let you know I got your message the other day, thanks for the call! I'm in the middle of the last week of school/finals so things are a bit stressful but we'll talk soon for sure. Glad to see life is good for you, well, besides your keys :) Love ya!
The same thing happened to a friend of mine. I'm glad to see you handled it with humor!
I think this story is so funny! I have seriously told it to about 20 people and no one can believe it. Just so you know, several of them had dropped keys in the potty too, one even shile it was flushing, but no one had lost them down the drain! Too bad the keys cost so much to replace. You will remember this trip for ever!
